Cardiff Residents Auctioning Jobs To Beat Recession

Cardiff, Wales (PRWEB) November 3, 2009

Many Cardiff residents are turning to alternative revenue channels to help ease the financial burden placed on them as a result of the recession. A mixture of students, recently unemployed and trades people have been undertaking jobs ranging from putting together Ikea furniture to a days work as an office assistant, through the Cardiff’s jobs marketplace JobOasis.co.uk. The website’s format appears to be popular with over 1000 people from Cardiff signing up since its launch in July. Based on a similar model to the hugely successful eBay, http://www.JobOasis.co.uk allows users to bid on jobs in Cardiff and receive feedback after a job has been completed.

Nick Braithwaite the site founder stated “The amount of sign ups to the website illustrates how many people are looking for temporary jobs in Cardiff at the moment; there is someone who is willing to do almost any job for the right price in this current economic climate.”

He added “Admittedly the majority of users are seeking work; however there have been quite a few businesses and homeowners looking to outsource certain tasks, such as household chores or office administration work. We are beginning to see shops and bars looking for temporary staff in the run up to Christmas.”

With redundancies and unemployment remaining a prominent feature of Cardiff’s economic landscape for the foreseeable future the trend for alternative sources of income will no doubt continue to grow over the next couple of years.

Great post! I?m just starting out in community management/marketing media and trying to learn how to do it well – resources like this article are incredibly helpful. As our company is based in the US, it?s all a bit new to us. The example above is something that I worry about as well, how to show your own genuine enthusiasm and share the fact that your product is useful in that case
