Guava to Speak About the future of Online Content at University College Falmouth
Cornwall, UK (PRWEB) February 13, 2010
Search engine optimisation and digital marketing company, Guava, are to return to University College Falmouth as part of the institution’s ongoing programme of guest lectures from industry specialists.
The lecture, ‘Search and research: The future of content and trust online’, will be given by SEO executive Mark Edmondson and online copywriter Luke Richards, and will offer an insight into the development of written content online with particular reference to how search engines are increasingly used as a tool for research.
It will also explore questions of trust and authorship online, especially in regards to the ways major search engines such as Google choose to rank content from websites such as the BBC, the Daily Mail and the Guardian in an era when social media and public-generated content such as Wikipedia and the thousands of blogs updated every day are proving stiff competition to more traditional sources.
Luke Richards, a graduate of University College Falmouth’s highly respected MA Professional Writing course, commented: “Over the past couple of years I’ve worked with various companies and institutions on their digital campaigns. As a result, I’ve become very interested in the notion of trusted content online, both from the perspective of search engines such as Google and Bing and what they decide to rank highest, but also as a researcher looking for specialist information.”
“I’m excited to be returning to UCF to discuss how authority and content has changed so much over the last year, and how it’s likely to continue doing so in the future – from trends toward paid news content to a greater dependency on wikis.”
Tom Scott, who teaches business writing on the MA course at Falmouth, said: “The concept of search has transformed the entire field of communications over the past few years, and it’s a huge advantage for writers to understand how to make the most of this new environment. We’re lucky to have a team from one of the UK’s leading search specialists to give our students such insights – and it’s particularly pleasing that one of them is a former MA Professional Writing student.”
The presentation has been organised by the MA Professional Writing course at Falmouth but is also open to local businesses and members of the public. It will take place in the Chapel Lecture Theatre at UCF Tremough Campus at 4:30pm on Thursday 18 February. For more information about UCF visit: http://www.falmouth.ac.uk

The beauty of these blogging engines and CMS platforms is the lack of limitations and ease of manipulation that allows developers to implement rich content and ‘skin’ the site in such a way that with very little effort one would never notice what it is making the site tick all without limiting content and effectiveness.
