Powerful plagiarism prevention tool also protects Academia from legal threats.

Powerful plagiarism prevention tool also protects Academia from legal threats.

Bermuda (PRWEB) June 6, 2004

“The recent threatened action against University of Kent at Canterbury, UK, by a student caught plagiarizing, as reported in the UK on May 27, 2004, has alerted the academic community to potential legal liability” says Stephan Botes, CEO of Uniting Networks Incorporated.

“Institutions seeking to preserve academic integrity have been left with few options; education, prevention and detection. And even where plagiarism was detected, institutions have been threatened with lawsuits by students, professing innocence or inadvertent plagiarism. Since a detection service can hardly identify the intent of the plagiarist, only blatant and glaring cases seem to get attention. Besides, detection services are limited to the public web and only those private and journal databases on the “deep” web they may have access to, and the deep web is 400 to 450 times larger than the public web! So you detected plagiarism and you are threatened with litigation, how do you determine and prove the intent of the plagiarist, intentional or not? Well, PowerResearcher enables you to.“ Botes added.

“PowerResearcher, a powerful Research Process Automation tool, is a desktop application that not only improves the speed and quality of research, making writing, citing, bibliography, publishing and sharing easier, it integrates it all into one single interface. It prevents plagiarism by recording, date and time stamping URLs and sources whenever information is copied or downloaded from the Internet. It requires building of bibliographies and citations while tracking the entire process, including the writing, protecting the innocent researcher against inadvertent plagiarism. The intentional plagiarist is easily identified by the effort to which they had to go to override the PowerResearcher plagiarism prevention and tracking features” Botes concluded.

PowerResearcher, used in conjunction with a detection service, appears to provide the most comprehensive plagiarism prevention strategy.

Scotland Meets the American West at Wyoming’s Buffalo Bill Historical Center

Greeting the Trappers by Alfred Jacob Miller, ca. 1837

Cody, Wyoming (PRWEB) March 26, 2012

Scottish immigrants have always added more to the story of the American West than a mere Scottish brogue. Take, for example, William Drummond Stewart, the Scot who paid a fur trading company $ 500 in 1833 to tag along as they delivered goods to the annual Green River Rendezvous in Wyoming or Thomas Moonlight, the Scot whom President Grover Cleveland appointed as Territorial Governor of Wyoming in 1887.

As it commemorates the Scottish holiday of Glen Saturday, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming, celebrates the love that Scots have for the American West with its very own “Glen Saturday” on Saturday, April 21, starting with a series of presentations 2 – 4 p.m. in the Center’s Coe Auditorium. Patrons of the Historical Center are admitted free of charge; the program is also free with paid admission.

Speaking about Scotland and the American West are Chris Dixon, Senior Research Fellow, and Dr. John Young, Senior Lecturer, in the School of Humanities at the Glasgow, Scotland, University of Strathclyde, as well as Jeremy Johnston, managing editor of the Center’s Papers of William F. Cody.

Curt DiCamillo, an American architectural historian and authority on the British country house—also the executive director of the National Trust for Scotland Foundation U.S.A.—presents the keynote address at 8 p.m. titled “Tartan Tales: Stories from Historic Scottish Houses.” Preceding the lecture, a cocktail reception with cash bar begins at 6 p.m. followed by dinner at 6:30. The cost for the reception, dinner, and lecture is $ 50 per person. Make reservations by calling 307.578.4126 or 307.578.4127.

“In the 1700s, population growth, agricultural modernization, and political upheaval in Scotland were the driving forces behind more than 50,000 immigrants crossing the Atlantic,” Johnston says. “Wyoming history is awash with tales of Scots in the territory.

“In fact, the state has marked its historic links with Scotland in monumental fashion when it unveiled Henry Snell Gamley’s bronze statue of Scottish poet Robert Burns near the Capitol Building in Cheyenne. Here in our area, the Bighorn Basin Scottish Society has celebrated the birthday of Robert Burns for many, many years, and is collaborating with us on the Glen Saturday celebration.” The Society continues the celebration with brunch at the Center on Sunday at 11:30 a.m. Cost is $ 25.

Glen Saturday marks the date when the children of Kilmarnock in Ayrshire, Scotland, went to Crawfurdland Castle to pick daffodils. It was—and still is customary—for the children of the town to go in droves to the castle to gather “glens,” a term for the yellow flowers growing in abundance on a lawn behind the mansion.

“We have good precedent for a Scotland/American West exchange,” Johnston continues. “Our namesake, William F. ‘Buffalo Bill’ Cody, took his Wild West show to Scotland at the turn of the 20th century. Our lecture series event stems from an ongoing relationship between the Historical Center and Strathclyde that has already produced in a short time, two conferences, books from Chris Dixon, student research in Europe, and a greater understanding of the Wild West’s impact in Europe. Our hope is that Glen Saturday becomes an annual event, and that we’ll become the central repository of the Scottish experience of the American West.”

For more information about Glen Saturday at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center, visit our Web site, or call 307.578.4126 or 307.578.4127. To learn more about the Papers of William F. Cody, visit http://www.codyarchive.org.

Committed to connecting people with the Spirit of the American West, the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in Cody, Wyoming, weaves the varied threads of the western experience—history and myth, art and Native culture, firearms technology and Yellowstone natural history—into the rich panorama that is the American West. The Center, an Affiliate of the Smithsonian Institution, is now operating its spring schedule, 10 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily. For general information, visit our Web site or call 307.587.4771.

Leading Voluntourism Organisation African Impact Nominated for Green Tourism Award 2009 in the British Youth Travel Awards

An orphan at their Cape Town community project waves you on

(PRWEB) November 16, 2009

At African Impact they considers themselves the African Specialists in volunteer travel.

With over 5 years experience facilitating high-quality and sustainable volunteer projects, their British Youth Travel Awards Nomination for Green Travel in 2009 is further testimony to their passion and dedication to what they do.

And so what does it take for an organization to gain recognition in this awards category? How has African Impact set themselves apart? Here are a few excerpts from their 2009 application to the British Youth Travel Awards leaders…

In 2008 African Impact launched their UK-registered Charitable Trust, The Happy Africa Foundation (http://www.happyafricafoundation.org) which is their supporting arm for the sustainable and accountable manner in which they aspire to manage their projects.

In 2009 alone African Impact volunteers will have contributed approximately 90,000 hours of volunteering in the numerous sustainable projects that they facilitate in Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Tanzania, South Africa, Zambia and Zambia with new developments on the horizon for 2010 in Ghana and Swaziland.

The team at African Impact says that they have learnt a number of valuable lessons over the past 5 years. These form the basis for their approach to project development, in conjunction with our charity partner The Happy Africa Foundation. Here are just a few…

A little forethought on the ground goes a long way

African Impact has a diligent system of careful Planning, Monitoring and Evaluating for ongoing project management. This involves Planning by means of incorporating local village heads and authorities, Monitoring by continuous assessment and Evaluation by the submission of quarterly development reports to independent sources including The Happy Africa Foundation.

Prep the volunteers

Besides careful planning of actual project structures, African Impact then focuses on careful preparation of their volunteer participants themselves. They focus on carefully educating volunteers and paving the way for them to respect and understand the respective project they will join and on arrival, volunteers are made well aware of that particular projects’ goals and objectives during their arrival orientation which is conducted by experienced Project Managers.

Case Study: Examples of Measurable Results in Conservation

In 2005 African Impact were partner founders of the UK-registered ALERT Trust (African Lion and Environmental Research Trust) to facilitate the expansion of their lion rehabilitation and release into the wild project as well as to raise awareness for conservation efforts in Africa. http://www.lionalert.org In this endeavour, African Impact and ALERT are very proud of their association with renowned British Explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes as the patron of our ALERT trust.

Over 300 African Impact volunteers having worked on ALERT’s lion rehabilitation project in the past 2 years, contributing approximately 40,000 hours of volunteering between them, and over GBP60,000 in donations made by African Impact directly to ALERT.

Case Study: Example of Measurable Results in Community Development

St Lucia Community Projects, South Africa

From January 2008 to May 2009 African Impact volunteers contributed over 11,850 hours to community development in the St Lucia area of South Africa.

The African Impact Orphan Daycare Project in St Lucia has succeeded in painting 5 buildings including the village information centre, the day care centre and a sick person’s home, sponsored an HIV Awareness event with the local High School, reaching over 500 pupils and with the Reading Club, our volunteers work with about 40 high school students twice a week on developing their English reading and comprehension skills.

In addition, volunteers have also individually touched the lives of about 200 children in 3 creches in Khula Village – the extent of their impact ranges from basic education and improvement in English, to feeding and nourishing the children, to care for their wounds and injuries, to simply providing one-on-one attention and playtime to children who would otherwise be ignored.

Each week, volunteers meet with an HIV Support Group, consisting of about 15 regular members. They discuss all aspects of positive living and encourage the members to support each other. In addition, they have sold ZAR30,000 of crafts made by members of the support group to volunteers, with 100% of the proceeds going directly to the maker of each craft.

African Impact volunteers in St Lucia have also proudly contributed to the completion of the building of a new day care centre to look after 80 children, many of whom are orphans.

AND HOW CAN YOU MAKE YOUR OWN IMPACT?

Click http://www.betauk.com/index.php?id=4254 to cast your vote for African Impact to WIN this award for 2009, and to make your impact on continuing their powerful legacy to responsible voluntourism in Africa!

*Voters must be engaged in the youth, student and educational travel industry ether as a producer or supplier, tourism board or other.

Greater Hudson Valley Health System signs Schumacher Group as exclusive ER services provider: SG Providers will staff Orange Regional and Catskill Regional

Greater Hudson Valley Health System signs Schumacher Group as exclusive ER services provider: SG Providers will staff Orange Regional and Catskill Regional

Middleton, NY (PRWEB) April 07, 2012

Louisiana-based Schumacher Group (SG) has been chosen as the exclusive Emergency Medicine Management firm for Orange Regional Medical Center (ORMC) in Middletown, the first new hospital in New York state in nearly 25 years, and its sister hospital, Catskill Regional Medical Center (CRMC) in Harris. Both hospitals are members of the Greater Hudson Valley Health System, the active parent company of the institutions, which provides healthcare to nearly 450,000 residents in Orange, Sullivan and Ulster Counties.

The Greater Hudson Valley Health System chose Schumacher Group over 12 competing management firms to staff their busy emergency departments at ORMC and CRMC.

ORMC alone will see approximately 65,000 annual visits to their ER. In order to provide clinical leadership and operational oversight in the Greater Hudson Valley Health System, Schumacher Group hired Dr. Bruce Whitman and Dr. Carlos Holden as Medical Directors for Orange Regional Medical Center and Catskill Regional Medical Center, respectively. SG also brought Dr. Anuj Vohra onto the staff at ORMC as the Associate Medical Director.

Dr. Whitman has been involved with emergency department leadership nearly 25 years. “His clinical experience, medical education, & business education has positioned him well to lead the staff and the department at ORMC to accomplish the operational excellence and quality patient care that is expected,” said Donald Lyles, Division COO for Schumacher Group. “Dr. Whitman will also be of tremendous value as the hospital expands its trauma and pediatric services, as well as community outreach programs.”

Dr. Holden was Medical Director and Chief of the Department of Emergency Medicine at CRMC when Schumacher Group was awarded the contract in January, 2012. “His guidance has been instrumental to the successful transition to a partnership with the Schumacher Group, the hiring of new staff, and in managing the operational changes required to move into a completely, newly-renovated Emergency Department at CRMC ,” explained Lyles.

Dr. Vohra was also serving in a leadership role in the ED at ORMC when Schumacher was awarded the contract. “His leadership and clinical expertise have provided a strong foundation as we begin to implement operational changes, hire new providers, and monitor quality metrics in the ED at ORMC,” added Lyles.

Once the Medical Directors were secured, the SG recruiting team embraced the task of hiring providers in a new region.

“This is a brand new market for our company, so the recruitment effort was tremendous,” said SG Emergency Medicine Director of Provider Recruiting and Retention, Jason Duncan. “With no previous contracts in this area of the country, the Greater Hudson Valley Health System put great trust in our team. We worked hard, retaining 50% of the existing physicians from the previous staffing group and signing 4 new physicians to join in.”

The complete turnaround for the start-up took place in just 90 days.

“Our expansion with the Greater Hudson Valley contract marks a new territory for our organization,” said Schumacher Group President and COO, Jim Guidry. “We are confident that our medical directors, along with our incredible team of providers, nurses and physician’s assistants, will all work together to put patients first and deliver quality care at ORMC and CRMC.”

The momentum from the Greater Hudson Valley Health System contract has since brought Schumacher Group into other parts of the Northeast as well. As of March 1, St. Michael’s Hospital in Newark, NJ welcomed them as the exclusive provider of their emergency department services.

The University of Nottingham Chooses VKernel for VMware Environment Optimization

April 07, 2012 By: admin Category: Colleges And Universities

The University of Nottingham Chooses VKernel for VMware Environment Optimization

Andover, MA (PRWEB) May 02, 2011

VKernel, the number one provider of performance and capacity management products for virtualized data centers and cloud environments, announced today that The University of Nottingham, a leading UK research university, has deployed the VKernel vOperations Suite for VMware capacity management. Nottingham joins a number of other colleges and universities from around the world using VKernel as their VMware management software solution.

The University of Nottingham is ranked within the top one percent of all universities worldwide with its placement at 73RD in the QS World University Rankings. Nottingham has campuses in the UK, Malaysia and China, with a staff of nearly 8,000 and over 40,000 undergraduate and postgraduate students. To save money and reduce the university’s carbon footprint, Nottingham decided to consolidate and virtualize all servers into the data centers on its UK campus. Determined to find the product that could best support VM performance monitoring while servers were virtualized and also identify environment optimization opportunities, The University of Nottingham selected VKernel to provide virtualization management support. As System Developer Craig Place affirmed, “After attending a conference on virtualization, I learned that VKernel was way ahead of all others offering management software. So, it became the obvious choice for our needs.”

Implementing VKernel has helped Nottingham meet the business goals of its virtualization initiative. Specifically, the University of Nottingham has been able to correctly size VMs, freeing up resources to increase virtual server density. According to Place, “Rightsizing VMs using the VKernel software has given us a considerable amount of maneuvering room, and that has spared the university from facing some very expensive alternatives for growing our total capacity.” Additionally, VKernel identifies wasted data files that can be removed. The reclaimed capacity can then be redeployed to other virtual machines and can lead to significant savings and further server consolidation goals. As Place mentions, “I don’t think we would have been able to find as many files left on the environment to reclaim. In the last month alone, I’ve cleared off nearly 200 GB of storage. If we’re looking at roughly 20 GB per VM, that equates to several additional VMs that we can add. This helps us squeeze that last VM on to an ESX host without impacting performance.”

“We’re pleased to be able to support The University of Nottingham in achieving the goals that were set for their virtualization initiative,” says Eric Jackson, Vice President of Product Management at VKernel. “One of the main drivers for virtualization projects, such as the one Nottingham engaged in, is to reduce the overhead from maintaining multiple physical servers through consolidation. VKernel’s software has been designed to enable easy implementable recommendations on VM sizing, waste removal and optimal VM placement based on advanced analytics. Incorporating these capabilities into a virtualized environment allows VM administrators to more efficiently use existing hardware, increasing investment return from the virtualization project.”
