Parent of child with disability launches special education consulting company
Glen Allen, Virginia (PRWEB) May 09, 2011
Johnny Harris, an educator and the parent of a child with a developmental disability, launched a special education consulting company this spring. Harris, a former administrator, recognized a need to serve families of children with disabilities after working in the field for over 10 years.
Harris, President of The Harris Education Group, LLC, provides individual consulting, IEP development, educational assessments and more. All staff members hold post graduate professional teacher licenses, issued by the Virginia Department of Education as well as Master and Doctorate Degrees in Special Education and Psychology.
“Many families of children with disabilities are unaware of their basic rights. Often times they sign IEP’s without fully understanding it, which at times can result in some pretty significant negative consequences. The Harris Education Group, LLC is here to assist parents in eliminating these consequences.”
The aim of The Harris Education Group, LLC, is to ensure parents of children with disabilities are educated about the special education system and become strong advocates for their children. When asked how long he has provided these types of educational services to families; “As long as I have been an educator, I have always helped families understand the special education process and teach them to collaborate with their child’s school in hopes for a positive experience.”
The Harris Education Group, LLC officially formed out of an increased need over past few years. Their office is located in Henrico County’s West End.
